Collecting Bullets A Poker Secret You Should Know
Sure, you want to be out there firing shots in online poker. Thats because you dont want opponents to think that youre a wimp and run all over you. But in online casino poker theres a time to be firing and a time to target.
Sometimes you can make more money just sitting there letting opponents bet into you than you can by betting back. I call this strategy collecting bullets, and the bullets you collect are pure profit namely, online poker chips.


Poker Play Technique
First, well examine the concept with a few advices and tips, then Ill give you a specific example of how it works in a real-life poker game. Listen. When youre up against an aggressive poker player to whom bluffing is basic behavior, its often more profitable to call and then call again, rather than raise. You can even check-call, if youre first to act. As long as you have at least some sort of advantage, and as long as you figure that your opponent is more likely to bluff than strategically wise, keep calling. Dont raise. In holdem free online poker or deuces wild, call before the flop, on the flop, and on the turn. What about the river?
Thats a good question. It turns out that on the river you can raise, even without powerful poker hands. Why? Because, if your opponent is bluffing, it wont matter in terms of money: Raising is just as good as calling, because your opponent will pass, and youll win the same size pot either way.
They wont tell you this. But raising on the end of a poker round has a hidden advantage that nobody is going to tell you about, except me. Youre my friend, and I want you to know. The hidden advantage to raising with even a medium-strong hand on the river that, if your opponent is bluffing, you will have escaped without exposing your poker strategy!
If you just call, youre more likely to impress your online poker opponent with the fact that you made a fool of him. You have let him lead all the way, never raising (or never betting if you were first to act), for the sole purpose of collecting bullets. Now he sees this. Thats exactly what you dont want to happen, if you can avoid it.
You would prefer that your opponent think he did nothing wrong during the poker game, but got unlucky on that last card. That way, you let him lose without thinking about modifying his future poker tactics. You can then use the same strategy again soon afterward.
- What if hes not bluffing? If your opponent actually has a reasonable betting hand, your strategy still is OK. (And always keep in mind that your opponent may have started off intending to bluff, then stumbled into a legitimate betting hand somewhere along the way.) If he has a legitimate betting hand and you have a legitimate calling hand, youre not really losing much by your just-call strategy. A raise might succeed in throwing him off guard, but it might backfire, instead.
What if the opponent has a very powerful poker hand? Then, unless you could have gained enough information by your bet or raise to discard your hand early, calling or check-calling isnt likely to cost you money. The catch. So, what are the disadvantages of just calling? Unfortunately, the disadvantages are considerable, and thats why you must try to collect bullets sparingly in the poker game.
